“We read books to find out who we are.” - Ursula K. Le Guin, The Language of Night

E.E.W. (Izzy) Christman has been a freelance writer and editor for more than a decade. They earned their Bachelor’s in Creative Writing and their Master’s in Creative Nonfiction from Ohio University, where they taught writing & rhetoric for two years. They moved back to the west coast where they were functionally a “starving artist” for several years, taking odd writing gigs where they could while slinging coffee to pay the bills. They worked as a technical writer, ghostwriter, analyst, proofreader, and content writer. It wasn’t until Izzy started focusing on the kind of work they cared about that their side hustle started to grow into their primary job. They began teaching creative writing classes at Hugo House, volunteered as a First Reader for Strange Horizons magazine, and blogged for Seattle’s Gay City, a nonprofit focused on public health. Their love of speculative fiction led Izzy back to school in 2021. They began attending the University of Washington to earn their Certificate in Editing, which they completed in June 2022.

Their love of the written word can be traced back to high school: they won the Young Appalachian Writer’s Award in 2007 with their short fiction. Since then, Izzy’s writing has appeared in a number of magazines, anthologies, and podcasts, including The NoSleep Podcast, American Gothic Short Stories, and Unwinnable Magazine. They are an active member of the Horror Writers Association.

When they’re not working, Izzy likes sinking into a good fantasy novel, playing video games, and (of course) watching horror movies.
